Like most decisions of great consequence, I happened upon the route for Cyclingthe6 in a pub garden, beer in one hand, mini-Atlas in the other. For this reason, and the tendency of the world’s geopolitical landscape to change daily at the behest of presidents, warlords and the like, the path below ought probably to be taken with a punch of salt. They’ll be no support team en route and no buses, trains or planes whilst travelling the length of each continent's mainland. Just the odd boat ride to connect up sections of the journey. Click on the links below to read a description of my route through each continent by freelance travel journalist and friend Henry Wismayer.
The journey will also fulfill the criteria of a true Round The World trip which involves cycling a distance of at least the circumference of the earth, starting from and returning to the same point, travelling in roughly 1 direction around the planet, crossing the equator at least twice and passing through 2 antipodes (two points on earth which are diametrically opposed to each other and can be connected by a straight line through the centre of the Earth). Here are some statistics relating to my journey and here are links to maps of the route I have taken so far... Europe The Middle East Africa
