       So why become a corporate sponsor?

 

  • Prolonged media coverage. As opposed to a summit attempt or a polar trek Cycling The 6 will take place over 4 and a half years meaning potential corporate sponsors could expect to benefit from press before, during and afterwards, in all likely to total over 6 years of positive media exposure in print, on the radio, on the blog and on the website.
  • International visibility. The pure extent of the journey will be of relevance to companies who operate in and are keen to raise their profile inside the US, Australia, China, Japan or Europe.
  • Extensive coverage in printed media will convey ongoing details of ‘Cycling the 6’ to a large UK audience during and after my journey. The media section on this site illustrates the interest already ignited in the expedition with coverage in national papers (circulation approaching 350,000).
  • Public interest in expeditions and epic adventures is growing.  Recent examples include Mark Beaumont’s record attempt and of course ‘A long way down’ with Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman. My journey will undoubtedly capture the public’s imagination as I take on a feat of endurance and endeavour through regions affected by the Neglected Tropical Diseases in a truly global adventure.
  • Assurance. I will communicate regularly with all corporate sponsors and endeavour to ensure that you are fully informed at all times.
  • Demonstrate your company’s support for a high profile charity challenge in aid of a humanitarian cause and in doing so associating your brand with a unique expedition.
  • Returns on investment by previous supporters of expeditions have been reported at 4:1 and in a time when UK companies are finding it hard to cope with the credit crunch more efficient forms of advertising are a priority. I’ve only stuck to things I know I can deliver successfully. Articles written of my previous expedition to Chile were beneficial to sponsors at the time and so this track record hopefully offers a degree of reassurance that I will follow through with commitments in any agreement made.

  • The upward momentum of the internet reflects a new era and almost all expenditure on traditional media is in decline. Next year UK advertisers are expected to spend around £3.6bn on the internet, an amount that will outstrip the £3.4bn that is forecast to be spent on TV ads. When people visit the Web for news they often do so in short bursts with little attention to ads. An expedition website and blog keeps people online and coming back… which translates into more exposure for corporate sponsors.
